Using scans to find radiation-sensitive esophageal cancer

This study tests whether a special imaging scan (functional imaging) can identify which esophageal cancers respond best to radiation. If you have stage II–IVA esophageal cancer and meet the health criteria, joining may help personalize your treatment.

Who can take part

  • You have squamous cell, undifferentiated, or adenocarcinoma of the esophagus (stages II–IVA, but not T4b).
  • You are able to care for yourself and are up and about at least half the day (ECOG 0–2).
  • You have had full staging tests (endoscopy, ultrasound, CT scans, and lung function test) and results show adequate organ function (like blood counts, liver, kidney, and lung health).
  • You have not had prior high-dose radiation to your chest or abdomen.
  • You do not have cancer that has spread to distant organs (M1 stage).
