Who can take part

  • You have confirmed esophagus cancer (squamous cell or adenocarcinoma) that is in the mid, lower part, or where the esophagus meets the stomach (up to the stomach area by 5 cm).
  • Your cancer stage must match allowed groups (T1 with limited/near lymph nodes, or T2–T3 with no or limited to certain lymph node involvement).
  • Recent tests must be completed: endoscopy with biopsy, CT scan, PET/CT scan, and an endoscopic ultrasound.
  • You must have adequate lung, kidney, blood, and liver test results (the trial uses specific cutoffs on the lab values).
  • You must be healthy enough for treatment: age 18+, energy level score 0–2, and a surgical consult confirming curative surgery is possible after proton therapy.
  • If you could become pregnant (or if you’re male and sexually active), you must use reliable birth control and be willing to complete required pregnancy testing if applicable.
