Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (confirmed by an ECG).
  • You are between 65 and 80 years old.
  • Your heart shows early signs of damage from AF, measured by a heart ultrasound (left atrial volume index greater than 34 ml/m2).
  • Your doctor decides you are eligible for either AF ablation or medical treatment.
  • You have not had a previous AF ablation or left atrial surgery.
  • Your AF has not been constant for more than one year.
