Who can take part

  • You are 12 to 18 years old and have a parent or guardian who can help with the study for 3 months.
  • You have been diagnosed with major depression (clinical depression).
  • You are currently in the hospital and have hurt yourself on purpose (like cutting, burning, or hitting) at least two times in the week before you were admitted.
  • You do not have other major mental health conditions like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or ADHD.
  • You do not have a history of seizures or epilepsy in yourself or your close family.
  • You are not taking certain medications like high doses of benzodiazepines, theophylline, or stimulants.
