Dialysis without heparin: a safety study

Who can take part

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must have been on dialysis for more than 3 months, with each session lasting at least 4 hours.
  • You must not be taking any blood-thinning medications (other than what is given during dialysis).
  • You must not have had a bad reaction to heparin in the past or have low platelets from heparin.
  • You must not have any active bleeding or be at high risk for bleeding (e.g., recent surgery, stroke, or head injury within the last 7 days).
