Who can take part

  • Child is between 3 and 10 years old
  • Child has hearing loss in one or both ears (bone conduction test shows more than 20 dB loss at certain pitches)
  • Parents must sign a consent form
  • Child has not had inner ear surgery
  • Child has no severe vision problems that prevent focusing on a spot one meter away
  • Child does not have involuntary eye movements (nystagmus) from birth
  • Child has no eye muscle movement issues
  • Child is not allergic to the sticky pads used for balance tests (VEMP electrodes)
  • Child has not had a recent head or neck injury with symptoms
  • Child does not take medicines that affect balance (like certain antihistamines)
