Who can take part

  • You must have a high body weight: a BMI of 28 or more, or a BMI of 24 or more with at least one weight-related health problem like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, or early signs of diabetes.
  • You must be willing to use reliable contraception (like birth control pills, condoms, or an IUD) during the study and for 6 months after the last dose of the study drug.
  • You cannot have diabetes or a history of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
  • You must not have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer (a rare type of thyroid cancer) or a genetic condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2.
  • You cannot have had weight-loss surgery (except liposuction or tummy tuck more than 1 year ago).
  • You must be able to receive injections under the skin (the study drug is given as a shot) and cannot have severe allergies.
