Renal Doppler to predict kidney injury in ARDS patients

This study uses a non-invasive ultrasound of the kidneys (renal Doppler) to see if it can predict acute kidney injury—sudden kidney damage—in patients who are on a ventilator for ARDS. If you qualify, you will help doctors learn a safer way to monitor kidney health.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are in the intensive care unit with a diagnosis of ARDS (a serious lung condition that makes it hard to breathe).
  • You have started on a breathing machine (ventilator) within the last 48 hours, or your doctor has decided you need one.
  • You are expected to live for more than 24 hours.
  • You (or your legal representative) have signed a form saying you understand and agree to take part.
