Who can take part

  • You must be between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You must have chronic low back pain for more than 3 months, with pain on most days for the past 6 months.
  • You must already have a spinal cord stimulator (a device that sends electrical signals to your spinal cord to help with pain).
  • You must be able to walk and use your legs.
  • You must be able to have an MRI scan (a safe imaging test that uses strong magnets) without any metal implants (like a pacemaker or certain clips) that would be unsafe, and you must not be claustrophobic (afraid of tight spaces).
  • You cannot have a history of severe mental illness (like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder), current suicidal thoughts, or a history of substance abuse (except marijuana).
