Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for elective orthopedic surgery with general anesthesia.
  • You can communicate clearly and describe your pain.
  • You do not have advanced cancer, other chronic pain, or severe obesity (BMI over 30).
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and not allergic to opioids.
  • You do not have sleep apnea, long-term opioid use, or certain heart, lung, or mental health conditions.
