CUped exercise for arm and leg recovery after stroke

This study tests a special pedaling exercise called CUped to help people with chronic stroke regain normal walking patterns. You'll come to the lab multiple times over several weeks to see if the training improves how you walk.

Who can take part

  • You had only one stroke (not counting mini-strokes or TIAs).
  • The stroke is in the outer brain (cortex) or the deep white matter (internal capsule/corona radiata), not the cerebellum or basal ganglia.
  • It has been at least 6 months since your stroke.
  • You can walk at least 30 feet (10 meters) with or without a cane, walker, or brace.
  • You have weakness on one side of your body (hemiparesis) and you use your stronger side more than your weaker side.
  • You can commit to 27 visits to Marquette University (pre-, mid-, post-tests, plus 24 training sessions).
