Norepinephrine for low blood pressure during anesthesia in heart failure

Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older.
  • You have chronic heart failure where the left side of your heart is weak (ejection fraction 40% or less, confirmed by an ultrasound within the past year).
  • Your heart failure is being managed with medications that follow current guidelines.
  • You are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) surgery under general anesthesia.
  • Your doctor plans to place a special blood-pressure monitoring line (arterial catheter) and a central line during surgery.
  • You are expected to need monitoring in the intensive care unit (ICU) after surgery.
  • You have a drop in blood pressure shortly after general anesthesia starts, before the surgery begins.
