Stopping sleeping sickness transmission with a new pill

Human African Trypanosomiasis

This trial tests if a single oral dose of acoziborole can safely stop the spread of the parasite that causes sleeping sickness (gambiense human African trypanosomiasis). If you've tested positive on a rapid screening test and haven't had treatment before, you might be able to help us find a simpler way to protect communities.

Who can take part

  • You must be 11 years or older and weigh at least 30 kg (66 lbs).
  • You must have had a positive screening test for sleeping sickness (CATT or RDT).
  • You must be able to swallow tablets and keep follow-up visits.
  • You cannot have active parasites found in your blood or lymph node at the start.
  • You cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding, or have been treated for sleeping sickness before.
  • You must avoid other clinical trials and, if you could become pregnant, use reliable birth control.
