Who can take part
- You are scheduled to have both breasts removed (bilateral mastectomy) with tissue expander reconstruction at the University of Chicago Medicine.
- You are having the mastectomy either to reduce your risk of breast cancer or for a small breast cancer (T1 or T2) that has not spread to lymph nodes.
- You agree to have the tissue expander removed within 12 to 20 weeks after it is placed.
- You have a cell phone and are willing to receive text messages from the study team.
- You can speak and understand English or Spanish.
- You are not currently receiving chemotherapy, and have not had prior mastectomy, chest radiation, or certain other medical conditions.
