Who can take part

  • You must be an adult currently on a breathing machine with a tube in your windpipe.
  • The breathing tube must have been in place for less than 48 hours.
  • You must not have severe unstable blood pressure or heart function.
  • You must not have a serious long-term lung disease that needs home oxygen.
  • You must be getting medicine to keep you calm and comfortable (sedation) while on the ventilator.
  • You must agree to take part and sign a consent form.
