This trial tests whether a drug called hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) can help before prostate cancer surgery. It is for people with localized prostate cancer who are planning to have their prostate removed.

Who can take part
- You must have prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 6 or higher and be scheduled for prostate removal surgery.
- You must be at least 18 years old and in generally good health (adequate blood counts, liver and kidney function).
- You cannot have had prior radiation or chemotherapy for your prostate cancer.
- You must be able to take oral medications and not have serious stomach or bowel conditions that affect absorption.
- You cannot have a history of G6PD deficiency, porphyria, epilepsy, or poorly controlled diabetes.
