- You are 18 years or older.
- You have been on a breathing machine or high-flow oxygen for at least 48 hours.
- You are now starting to come off that breathing support (within the last 24 hours).
- You do not have a known diaphragm problem or nerve/muscle disease that affects breathing.
- You do not have a tracheostomy tube.
