Who can take part

  • You are an adult (age 18 or older).
  • You are having surgery that requires you to be put to sleep and have a breathing tube placed.
  • You do not have severe acid reflux, achalasia, or a bowel blockage.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is 35 or less.
  • You do not have uncontrolled diabetes.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You have not had surgery on your esophagus or stomach before.
  • You do not have damaged teeth or an airway that is expected to be difficult for placing a breathing tube.
