This study looks at what factors might predict acute kidney injury (sudden kidney damage) in people who come to the emergency room with acute decompensated heart failure (a sudden worsening of heart failure). The goal is to help doctors identify who is at highest risk so they can take steps to protect the kidneys.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have acute decompensated heart failure (a sudden worsening of heart failure symptoms).
  • You are not on dialysis for kidney failure.
  • You have not had a kidney transplant.
  • You have not had any surgery within one week before or after a kidney injury event.
  • You have not had thyroid problems, drug toxicity, rheumatologic or autoimmune disease, or an acute infection.
