Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older and need to be admitted to the hospital for a serious lung or airway infection.
- You are not pregnant, a prisoner, or unable to give consent.
- You are not currently on active cancer treatment, immune-suppressing drugs, or long-term antibiotics or steroids.
- You have not had major surgery in the last month, and you do not have advanced kidney disease or other severe chronic illnesses that limit your life expectancy.
