This trial compares a shorter course of antibiotics to the usual longer course for children hospitalized with uncomplicated bacterial pneumonia. The goal is to see if fewer days of antibiotics work just as well, which could reduce side effects and make treatment easier.

Who can take part

  • Children aged 3 months to under 18 years old
  • Hospitalized in a regular unit or intensive care unit for pneumonia caused by bacteria
  • Chest X-ray shows signs of pneumonia
  • Within 72 hours of starting antibiotics, your child is stable (no fever under 100.4°F and no need for oxygen or breathing machine)
  • No serious complications like chest tubes, other infections, or chronic lung diseases (except asthma)
