  • You have a thyroid cancer or a benign thyroid tumor that is pressing on your throat and needs surgery.
  • You are planning to have surgery to remove the tumor.
  • You have not had any previous neck surgery or radiation to the neck.
  • You have not had cancer elsewhere in your body before.
  • You do not have an active thyroid hormone problem (like hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism).
  • You are willing to sign a form saying you understand and agree to be in the study.
