This study uses ultrasound images and a quick gene test to predict certain gene changes and cancer spread in people with thyroid cancer. If you are planning to have surgery to remove your thyroid, your ultrasound images and a small tissue sample will be analyzed to help guide treatment.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • Your ultrasound shows signs that it might be papillary thyroid cancer.
  • You are scheduled to have your thyroid removed at one of the study hospitals.
  • You agree to have a gene test on your tumor tissue and allow your ultrasound images to be studied.
  • You have not had any prior thyroid or major neck surgery.
  • You do not have certain rare types of thyroid cancer or cancer that has spread outside the neck.
