Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are scheduled for surgery on your stomach, intestines, or bones
  • You will need a breathing tube placed through your mouth (laryngoscopy)
  • You will receive a muscle relaxant medication before the tube is placed
  • You can be awake and follow instructions (no confusion, dementia, or coma)
  • You do not have any major injury, tumor, or deformity in your face, neck, or throat area
