Group diabetes education (DESMOND) for newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes

This study tests whether adding a group education program (DESMOND) to usual care helps people recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes improve their blood sugar control and daily self-care. You would be randomly assigned to either standard education or standard plus the group classes.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You were told you have type 2 diabetes within the past 4 to 6 weeks
  • You are a patient at the Airport Health Care Center in Qatar
  • You have not yet attended any diabetes education classes at PHCC
  • You are not taking water pills (diuretics) or cancer therapy
  • You do not have a long-term mental health condition and are not in another research study
