Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are on a heart-lung machine (V-A ECMO) for severe heart failure.
  • The heart-lung machine was started within the last 16 hours.
  • You are getting a heart-strengthening medicine called dobutamine at a dose of at least 2 mcg per kg per minute.
  • You are not getting epinephrine (adrenaline) as a drip.
  • Your heart rate is at least 80 beats per minute, and you are in a normal rhythm or atrial fibrillation/flutter.
