- Born before 32 weeks of pregnancy

- Had at least 4 low-oxygen episodes in the last 24 hours (oxygen below 90% for 5 seconds or more)

- No major birth defects, severe brain injury, or unstable blood pressure needing heart medicine in the last 3 days
