Who can take part
- You have an acute brain injury (like from a stroke, head trauma, or bleeding)
- You are 18 years or older
- You have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for at least 24 hours
- You do not already have a tracheostomy tube before arriving at the ICU
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- You do not have a spinal cord injury in your neck
