Can brain stimulation prevent confusion after gastrointestinal surgery?

This study is testing whether using a gentle 40Hz brain stimulation (called transcranial stimulation) during recovery after surgery can help prevent confusion or delirium in older adults. Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older
  • You are having planned gastrointestinal surgery with general anesthesia
  • You do not have schizophrenia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, or myasthenia gravis
  • You are able to communicate and do not have severe dementia or coma
  • You do not have delirium or a brain injury right now
  • You do not have severe liver or kidney failure
