- You are 65 years or older
- You are having planned gastrointestinal surgery with general anesthesia
- You do not have schizophrenia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, or myasthenia gravis
- You are able to communicate and do not have severe dementia or coma
- You do not have delirium or a brain injury right now
- You do not have severe liver or kidney failure
