Celecoxib and metformin for familial adenomatous polyposis

Familial Adenomatous Polyposis

This trial tests whether a combination of two drugs, celecoxib and metformin, can prevent the growth of polyps in the colon or duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) in people with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). FAP is a condition that causes many polyps to form, raising the risk of cancer. If you have FAP, are between 20 and 55, and have at least 5 polyps that are 2mm or larger, this study may be for you.

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP).
  • You are between 20 and 55 years old.
  • You have at least 5 polyps in your colon or duodenum that are 2mm or larger.
  • You have not had colon surgery in the past year and do not need surgery in the next 8 months.
  • You do not have colorectal cancer or other cancers.
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, and do not have serious heart, stomach, or kidney problems.
