Reducing Anticholinergic Medications in Schizophrenia

Who can take part

  • You must have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or a related psychotic disorder, confirmed by a doctor.
  • You must be taking benztropine or trihexyphenidyl (medications for antipsychotic side effects) for at least 6 months.
  • You must be between 35 and 70 years old.
  • You should not have serious side effects from the anticholinergic medication, like fever or blurry vision.
  • You cannot have a neurological condition like Parkinson's disease, dementia, multiple sclerosis, lupus, or a history of traumatic brain injury.
