Who can take part
- You must be between 12 and 35 years old.
- You must have one of these sickle cell disease types: HbSS, HbSβ0, or HbSβ+.
- You must have had at least 2 pain crises, acute chest syndrome, priapism, or strokes in the last 2 years, or have red cell antibodies requiring transfusions, or have failed or cannot use standard treatments.
- Your hemoglobin S level must be 30% or higher before transfusions, and your fetal hemoglobin must be below 20%.
- You must be in good enough health to undergo the procedure, as measured by a performance score of 70 or higher.
- You must agree to follow the study rules, use contraception, and attend follow-up visits.
