Prevalence of a spine variation and its link to wear-and-tear disease

This study looks at a common spine variation called lumbosacral transitional vertebra and whether it is linked to lumbar degeneration (wear-and-tear of the spine) in adults aged 20 to 50. It uses CT scans from the hospital archive to find out how often this variation occurs in Egypt and if it affects the spine over time.

Who can take part

  • You are between 20 and 50 years old.
  • You have had a CT scan of your abdomen and pelvis (called a KUB study) between 2022 and 2023.
  • You have not had any surgery on your lower back.
  • You do not have a tumor, infection, or recent fracture in your lower back.
  • The quality of your CT scan is good enough to clearly see the spine.
