Who can take part

  • You are a veteran who had a solid tumor cancer (like bladder, breast, lung, or prostate) and have been cancer-free for at least 6 months.
  • Your last cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery) was at least 6 months ago, but you can still be on hormone or biologic therapy.
  • You have had moderate to severe pain (rated 4 or higher on a 0-10 scale) in your last 3 medical records.
  • You are currently on long-term opioid therapy, meaning you got a prescription for a strong painkiller in the last 30 days and have had at least 150 days' supply in the last 6 months.
  • Your current opioid prescriber agrees to resume prescribing pain medication if you join the study.
  • You are not taking more than 300 morphine milligram equivalents (a measure of opioid strength) per day, and you have not used buprenorphine before.
