Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • You had a certain type of heart attack called STEMI.
  • You received a procedure called primary PCI (angioplasty) to open the blocked artery.
  • You do not have a history of heart failure from any cause.
  • You did not have cardiogenic shock (very low blood pressure from heart failure) before your procedure.
  • You do not have an active infection at the time of the study.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have conditions that cause a high anion gap, such as chronic kidney disease or metabolic acidosis.
