Nerve stimulation plus cognitive training for brain injury recovery

This study tests if a gentle, noninvasive nerve stimulation (on the neck) combined with computerized thinking exercises can help people recovering from a traumatic brain injury improve memory and attention. It is for adults currently in inpatient rehab who can use a keyboard and are medically stable.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old and currently in inpatient rehab for a recent traumatic brain injury.
  • You can use a keyboard independently and understand and communicate in English.
  • You are able to give your own consent to participate and are oriented to place, time, and situation.
  • You do not have any medical implants like a pacemaker, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You do not have a diagnosis of depression or active substance abuse, and you are not severely agitated or having major memory problems.
