  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are in the hospital for surgery that involves opening your breastbone (sternotomy)
  • You have given your written permission to take part
  • You have health insurance coverage
  • You have never had a blood cancer or abnormal blood tests
  • You are not taking medications that weaken your immune system (like steroids, chemotherapy, or similar drugs)
