This study looks at special cells in your bone marrow and blood that help make platelets. Researchers want to learn more about these cells in people having planned heart bypass surgery. If you are eligible, you will donate some extra bone marrow and blood samples during your surgery.

Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You are scheduled for a planned heart surgery called 'coronary artery bypass grafting' (CABG) where the surgeon opens your chest (sternotomy)
- You do not have any blood disorders (like leukemia, lymphoma, or MDS) and are not taking certain medications (like thrombopoietin receptor agonists, corticosteroids, or immunosuppressants)
- You have not had a stem cell or organ transplant
- You do not have an active cancer or cancer that was treated in the last 6 months
- You have not had a previous chest-opening heart surgery or radiation therapy to the chest
