Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a visible lesion in your esophagus that is at least 20 millimeters (about 0.8 inches) wide.
  • You are scheduled to have the lesion removed using a procedure called endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).
  • You are able to give your informed consent to participate.
  • You do not have any condition that would make the numbing medicine unsafe or the pain difficult to assess.
