- You are 65 years or older
- You have knee or hip arthritis
- You have a body mass index (BMI) between 30 and 45, or higher with your doctor's OK
- You have not lost or gained more than 5% of your body weight in the last 6 months
- You are not currently doing regular resistance training or more than 20 minutes of aerobic exercise most days
- You are not using weight loss medications
