Sealing molars with enamel spots: rinsing vs blotting

This study tests whether rinsing off or blotting dry a special silver fluoride liquid before placing a tooth sealant helps the sealant last longer on molars affected by a common condition called molar-incisor hypomineralization. Who can take part

  • You have a child with a permanent molar that has white, yellow, or brown spots (molar-incisor hypomineralization).
  • The molar is fully grown in and needs a protective sealant (a thin coating) to prevent cavities.
  • The tooth does not currently have a filling or a cavity.
  • Your child is not in braces or other orthodontic treatment right now.
  • Your child is generally healthy and does not take daily medicine for a long-term condition.
