Who can take part
- You are in the hospital with a new buildup of fluid around one lung (pleural effusion).
- Your doctor plans to take a sample of that fluid for testing (thoracentesis).
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are able to give written permission (informed consent).
- You have not had any treatments inside the chest on that side (for example, talc, surgery, or clot-dissolving drugs) in the last 3 months.
- You have not taken two or more TB medicines (such as isoniazid, rifampicin, or pyrazinamide) for more than 7 days in the last 3 months.
