  • You need a central line placed in the internal jugular vein (a large vein in the neck).
  • No infection at the spot where the catheter will be inserted.
  • No medical condition that makes central line placement unsafe (like severe bleeding problems or allergy to numbing medicine).
  • No blood clot in the internal jugular vein seen on imaging before the procedure.
