This study tests whether mentalization-based therapy (MBT), a type of talk therapy that helps you understand your own and others' thoughts and feelings, can improve severe long-term mental health symptoms and relationship difficulties. You will be placed in either MBT or the usual care (TAU) group to compare results.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 64 years old.
  • You have had severe mental health symptoms for a long time that make daily life harder.
  • You struggle with relationships and managing your emotions.
  • You have at least two of these: depression or anxiety disorder, a history of trauma, or signs of a personality disorder.
  • You are not currently in another intensive talk therapy or have active substance abuse or acute psychosis.
