Who can take part

  • You are 50 years or older.
  • You have heart valve disease with calcium buildup, as shown by an ultrasound or other tests.
  • Your kidney function (filtration rate) is below 60 mL/min.
  • Your blood phosphorus level is higher than 4.5 mg/dL (1.45 mmol/L).
  • You do not have other types of valve disease, such as rheumatic or congenital valve disease.
  • You are not scheduled for dialysis within the next 6 months and have no planned heart surgery.
