Who can take part

  • Women aged 18 to 50 years old.
  • Diagnosed with sickle cell disease (types SS, SC, or sickle beta zero/plus thalassemia).
  • Had at least 1 painful crisis per month on average in the last 6 months.
  • Had 1 to 10 hospital or clinic visits for pain in the past year.
  • Not currently using hormonal birth control; must stop all hormonal birth control for at least 1 month before starting the study (or 4 months if you recently had the depot shot).
  • Regular menstrual cycles (21 to 35 days long) when not on hormonal birth control.
  • Stable doses of sickle cell medications (like hydroxyurea) for at least 6 months.
  • No history of blood clots, stroke, or chronic inflammatory conditions like lupus.
  • Not currently using crizanlizumab, voxelotor, or chronic blood transfusions.
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding, and no pregnancy in the last 6 months.
  • No polycystic ovary syndrome or irregular periods.
  • Blood pressure below 160/100 at the screening visit.
  • Access to a device with text messaging and able to read English.
  • Willing to follow the study procedures.
