Who can take part

  • You must have a confirmed diagnosis of sickle cell disease with a specific type (HbSS, HbSβ0-thal, or HbSβ+-thal)
  • You need to have had between 2 and 15 severe pain crises in the last year (depending on the part of the study)
  • You cannot be on regular red blood cell or platelet transfusions, and you must not have had a transfusion recently
  • You must be able to carry out daily activities with little or no help (ECOG score of 0 or 1)
  • If you're in Part 1, you cannot have had acute chest syndrome or more than 6 severe crisis hospital stays in the last year
