Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are having planned (non-emergency) surgery with general anesthesia
  • You will need a breathing tube placed through your mouth
  • You do not have more than one factor that could make tube placement difficult (like severe obesity, past difficult intubation, limited neck movement, or a small mouth opening)
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are not having neck or throat surgery
  • You are not at high risk for food or liquid getting into your lungs during surgery
