Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease or multiple system atrophy (MSA) for at least 2 years.
  • You are between 40 and 75 years old.
  • Your movement symptoms are moderate when you are off your usual medication (a score between 20 and 35 on a standard rating scale).
  • You are able to have a special brain scan (SPECT) and an MRI.
  • You have not had any previous brain surgery for Parkinson's or other conditions.
  • You are not taking blood thinners (other than aspirin) and are generally healthy enough for surgery.
