Breathing device study for lung expansion and clearance

Who can take part

  • You need to have a condition that requires help opening up your lungs or clearing mucus out of your airways, as decided by your doctor.
  • You must agree to join the study and sign a consent form.
  • Your blood oxygen level must be low—specifically, the ratio of oxygen in your blood to the amount of oxygen you breathe in should be less than 200.
  • You need a score on the Airway Care Score (a measure of breathing problems) that is less than 7.
  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You cannot have a pacemaker or defibrillator because the lung scanner (EIT) can't be used with them.
  • If you are unstable—meaning your blood pressure is too low (systolic below 90 or mean below 60)—you cannot take part.
